Not a big fan of using head motions or type of spindle to define the difference, as there are lots of exceptions to each. Many 5-axis mills move the head in various ways beyond just Z. Datron makes CNC mills (excellent ones, BTW) that look like these CNC "Routers" but they call them "Mills".

Aug 11, 2015· We have two of those Datron milling machines and use their end mills exclusively on those machines for aluminum. The really do work very well, especially in slotting since the machine only has air blast combined with isopropanol alcohol. Never had one clog up yet!
What seal material do you use? I have found soft neoprene cord stock is various sizes. I have a vacuum pump. So I'm gong to design and build a plate and see how this goes. Feb 14, 2015· Datron is too much money for what you get. HAAS is AMAZING price for what you get! They have no Dental mill. You have to build it yourself. (Or I build One for you?) I have One running in Argentina and delivering One in New Jersey next Month. We use Square Titanium blacks and costs 5x less than stupid 98mm disk with machined step on edge.

I made my mill using Bill Rake's pictures on the internet. I did some of my own modifications to the design like to the roller guides, wheels, and acme rod to move the head up and down. If you take your time and make use of a machine shop were needed your saw will cut accurate. I also used 16 hp and would not go smaller.
The machines in question are picked due to their footprint, (needs to fit in a small office shop through 34" doors), and their perceived ease of use. Does anyone have any experience running either one or ideally both of them? Is the datron substantially more user friendly over a tormach or other similar size vmc?
